Biomedical Monitoring of Non-hospitalized Subjects Using Disruption-Tolerant Wireless Sensors

چکیده
The proliferation of private, corporate and community Wi-Fi hotspots in city centers and residential areas opens up new opportunities for the collection of biomedical data produced by sensors carried by mobile non-hospitalized subjects. In this paper we investigate the possibility of using these many hotspots as gateways for biomedical data transmission. A disruption-tolerant application is presented, that can record biomedical data while the subject is not in the range of a Wi-Fi hotspot, and upload recorded data to a remote monitoring center whenever a hotspot is located nearby. Results of a eld trial are presented, with a scenario involving a subject wearing an ECG-enabled sensor, walking in the streets of a residential area.

Disruption-tolerant wireless sensor networking for biomedical monitoring in outdoor conditions
Off-the-shelf wireless sensing devices open up interesting perspectives for biomedical monitoring. Yet because of their limited processing and transmission capacities most applications considered to date imply either indoor real-time data streaming, or ambulatory data recording. In this paper we investigate the possibility of using disruption-tolerant wireless sensors to monitor the biomedical ...

In most current biomedical monitoring applications, data acquired by sensors attached to a patient are either transmitted directly to a monitoring console for real-time processing, or they are simply recorded on the sensor unit for deferred analysis. In contrast collecting and transmitting biomedical data continuously over long distances in outdoor conditions is still a challenge. In this paper...

Wireless sensor networks have many applications in the real world and have been developed in various environments. But the limitations of these networks, including the limitations on the energy and processing power of the sensors, have posed many challenges to researchers. One of the major challenges is the security of these networks, and in particular the issue of authentication in the wireles...
متن کاملPatient monitoring using personal area networks of wireless intelligent sensors.
A wearable device for monitoring multiple physiological signals (polysomnograph) usually includes multiple wires connecting sensors and the monitoring device. In order to integrate information from intelligent sensors, all devices must be connected to a Personal Area Network (PAN). This system organization is unsuitable for longer and continuous monitoring, particularly during the normal activi...
